Nelson Tjiane

Nelson Khomotso Tjiane is a highly accomplished South African legal professional with a career spanning over two decades across diverse areas of law, including Labour Law, Mercantile Law, Administrative Law, Pension Law, and Commercial Litigation. A graduate of the University of the North (now University of Limpopo) and the University of Pretoria, Nelson combines deep academic knowledge with extensive practical experience.

Nelson began his legal journey as a student tutor, mentoring LLB and diploma students in Employment and Mercantile Law, before joining the now defunct M.L. Mashego Attorneys of Polokwane.

In 2008, Nelson joined the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) as Legal Advisor, providing expertise in constitutional, administrative, procurement, compliance, and corporate governance matters. He represented the Council in labour disputes, internal disciplinary inquiries, and CCMA proceedings, and contributed to occupational health and safety oversight.

A passionate advocate for pension law, Nelson served as an employer appointee on the HSRC Pension Fund Board, gaining valuable insights into retirement fund management and regulatory compliance. He also engages in aspects of Intellectual Property law, particularly in matters arising from publicly funded research.
