Caring for the less fortunate on Mandela Day 2024

During the 2024 winter season, RW Attorneys demonstrated their commitment to their social responsibility by teaming up with the Starfish Babies in Pretoria. Starfish Babies, a project launched under Starfish Projects NPO, provides support to temporary places of safety families. These families voluntarily care for unwanted babies and toddlers until more permanent placement is arranged. The collaboration aimed to uplift the lives of orphaned, abused, abandoned and neglected babies ranging from birth to 18 months old. As part of our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects, RW Attorneys organised an impactful initiative on Nelson Mandela Day.

Empowering Vulnerable Youth in Atteridgeville

During the 2023 winter season, RW Attorneys demonstrated their commitment to social responsibility by teaming up with the Mohau Child and Youth Care Centre in Atteridgeville, Pretoria. The collaboration aimed to uplift the lives of orphaned, abused, abandoned, neglected, and terminally ill children, as well as their families affected by HIV/AIDS. As part of their Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects, RW Attorneys organised two impactful initiatives – the Youth Day Winter Drive and the Mandela Day Outreach.

The Mohau Child and Youth Care Centre has long been a beacon of hope for those in dire circumstances. The centre provides crucial care and support, offering both temporary and permanent residential solutions, alongside community-based social services. Notably, children find refuge at the facility through court orders, highlighting the significance of its role in protecting vulnerable young lives.

During the Youth Day Winter Drive, RW Attorneys gathered essential resources to aid the children during the colder months. Warm clothing, blankets, and other necessities were donated to ensure their well-being during the chilly season.

On Mandela Day, RW Attorneys intensified their efforts by organising a special outreach program. Volunteers from the law firm spent our 67 minutes donating groceries and toiletries to the children. Gifts were also handed out to the helpers acknowledging their hard work, dedication and commitment done daily.

RW Attorneys’ collaboration with the Mohau Child and Youth Care Centre is a token of our dedication to social responsibility and also highlights the power of partnerships in making a positive impact in the community. By reaching out to the most vulnerable members of society, RW Attorneys hope to set an example for other corporations to follow, proving that even a small act of kindness can leave a lasting impression on young lives in need.

They explain that the nomination is in recognition of Faathima Asmall’s exceptional talent, outstanding accomplishments, and significant contributions to the field of international law.

The prestigious awards ceremony is held on April 26-27 in Dubai, where Faathima and other outstanding women in law will be celebrated.

RW Attorneys are proud of our 133 year old legacy as one of the oldest law firms in Pretoria. The firm has grown, evolved and stayed the course during incredible historical milestones since its incorporation in 1889.

Our firm witnessed the Boer War, the First and Second World wars, the Great Depression, the Apartheid era and transition to a new democracy, not to forget the Covid Pandemic and the brave new AI world.

Our firm has remained an anchor of legal leadership spanning 3 centuries and are now poised to drive the transition to inclusivity, empowerment and representation well into the following 3 centuries.

In March 2023, in celebration of our heritage, Faathima Asmall (Managing Director) handed over all historical documents and photos from the long history of the firm to Die Erfenisstigting at the Voortrekker Monument, for safe keeping as part of their historical collection.
